Scottish Soprano Claudia Wood, completed her operatic training at Wales International Academy of Voice, where she studied with Dennis O’Neill CBE.  She is also a graduate of Royal Welsh College of Music & Drama, where she studied with Gail Pearson.  Prior to Claudia’s vocal training, she was a Police Constable in Dumfries and Galloway and holds a First Class Honours Degree in Policing & Criminology.  She left the Police to formally pursue vocal training at Royal Birmingham Conservatoire.

Her cancelled work during the Covid- 19 pandemic, included Donna Elvira, Don Giovanni (Surrey Opera); Marguerite (cover), Faust (Opera de Baugé); Hanna (cover), The Merry Widow (Opera de Baugé); Manon Lescaut and My Fair Lady- Chorus (The Grange Festival); She, William Boyce’s Serenate, Solomon (Opera at Chilmark).  Claudia was also invited to take part in the Gerda Lissner International Opera Prize, New York and was grateful to The Wagner Society of Scotland who would have supported her attendance at the competition.

Claudia’s past roles include Ines, Il Trovatore (Opera de Baugé); Pamina (Cover), Die Zauberflöte (Opera de Baugé); Countess Almaviva, Le Nozze di Figaro (Blackbird Opera); First Lady, Die Zauberflöte (RWCMD Opera, Sherman Theatre); Dido, Dido and Aeneas (Opera at Chilmark); Fiordiligi, Cosi fan tutte (RWCMD Opera Scenes); Nedda, Pagliacci (Love to Sing Opera); Helena, A Midsummer Night’s Dream (RWCMD Opera Scenes); Nedda, Pagliacci (Midland Opera); Lady Billows, Albert Herring (Royal Birmingham Conservatoire Opera Scenes). 

Claudia performed the role of Amaryllis, The Spring (Opera at Chilmark) a rediscovered pasticcio opera from the eighteenth century created by James Harris, a good friend of Handel.  She reprised the role of Amaryllis in 2019 during Salisbury International Arts Festival.  In 2015, she created the role of Celia, in Royal Birmingham Conservatoire’s world premiere of Ava’s Wedding, an English opera composed by Michael Wolters.


Claudia is a recipient of the Gil Rodriguez Scholarship for her contribution to the 2019 Opera de Baugé festival.  In 2018, Claudia was awarded The Wagner Society of Scotland’s Bayreuth Scholarship and a finalist in the Janet Price Opera Prize.  Claudia was also awarded third prize in the Edward Brooks English Song Prize (2016). Claudia’s studies at Wales International Academy of Voice, were supported by The Kathleen Trust and The Mario Lanza Education Foundation.
